Your book emphasizes intentionality as a path out of chaos. What’s one small daily habit you recommend for parents juggling high-pressure careers and family life? How can they start reclaiming calm?

One habit that makes a massive difference is starting the day with intention—even if it’s just for five minutes. Ideally, it’s before the rest of the house wakes up, but let’s be real—some days that’s just not happening. You can still claim a micro moment of calm while the kids are getting dressed, eating breakfast, or brushing their teeth. Whether it’s jotting down your top priorities, taking a few grounding breaths, or just drinking your coffee mindfully, those small pauses help you remember: you are in charge of your energy. It’s not about perfection; it’s about presence.

You talk about the power of systems in the home. Can you share an example of a simple system that has made a big impact in your own family’s routine?

One of my favorite home systems is our Sunday family reset. It’s a short, weekly routine where we meal plan, check calendars, assign who’s doing what for the week (ie. kids’ chores, who’s taking who to sport practices, lessons, etc), and make sure shoes, water bottles, and homework are where they need to be. It’s not fancy, but it prevents so many of the Monday meltdowns and midweek scrambles. Your future self will be so grateful for this weekly routine.

Many parents feel guilt when they focus on their own wellness. What mindset shift do you suggest to help them see self-care as essential rather than selfish?

I remind parents: you are the infrastructure of your family. If you’re running on empty, everything else starts to wobble. Self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s maintenance. When you fill your own cup, you’re more present, patient, and energized for the people you love. Taking care of yourself is actually the most generous thing you can do for your family.
